And that with the S54, the engine isn't even the majority of your cost.Įdit: and that's just the list off the top of my head. I'm not trying to discourage you, but you do need to understand that doing this costs serious money. That adds up to a healthy chunk of change too. If that doesnt add up north of $10k for you, either your math is bad or you are using (very) used parts.Īnd that completely ignores, you know, all the basic maintenance that an E30 needs at this point. So a custom subframe is needed, what else? custom engine mounts, driveshaft?$4k, plus transmission, plus $3k for the flash, plus headers, plus exhaust, plus pan/subframe modification, plus brake booster and master (or hydro boost, or manual brakes), plus cooling system. I m beginning to see that the costs come into play during the installation. Well, i have found some complete swaps going for like 3k-4k, which to me is not bad. The S54 is such an awesome motor in the E46.so I can imagine what it could do for an E30. What would I need to perform this swap?Īny help or input would be greatly appreciated guys as I have started looking for an E30 to buy. I personally think it would be a fun car to drive and to take on the track, properly set up of course. None of the people I have talked to have clearly said why the S54 is such a bad idea in an E30. ![]() So my question now is, how many of you have done this swap into an E30 and if you have, what is entailed to perform it. ![]() One shop even told me that I'd be looking at in between 19k to 30k for a swap.now, I don't know if they were exxagerating, but come on.30k for a swap is crazy.then a friend of mine says " why not diy?" That into an E30 is just a major headache. After talking to a few people and shops, they tell me to stay away from the S54 swap. Now, i have been searching around for motors and found them for pretty reasonable prices. The S54 really callsme out more for some reason. Now, after looking around at engine options, I have it narrowed down to an S50/52 or an S54. Ok guys, I drive an E39 as my daily but I am entertaining the idea of buying an E30 and building it slowly as a project car. ![]()
